Volume - Irregular Shape

How can I find the volume of a Gabriel?

Objectives:
  • Review mass and volume
  • Determine how to find the volume of an irregular shaped object
  • Get everyone comfortable with Mindmeister note taking

Class:
  • Review Mindmeister functions
  • Student exploration how to find the volume of an irregular object
5 ml - 3.4 ml = 1.6 ml

    • Brainstorm:  How could we find the volume of a student?
      • What is we don't have a huge graduated cylinder?
    • Outdoor project.  Finding the Gabriel's volume.

    Procedure
    • Fill a large container to the top with water
    • Slowly insert Gabriel and observe the water he displaces
    • Slowly remove  Gabriel
    • Refill the container to the top recording the necessary volume.
    Gabriel's volume is 48 L or 48,000 mL!


    That is a lot of Gabriel!!!
